History of Scotland

Scotland’s history is replete with tragedy and triumph, from the Jacobites’ crushing defeat at the Battle of Culloden (1746) at the hands of the British army to its world dominance in the 19th century textile, steel and shipbuilding industries. With such historical giants as the explorer Dr. David Livingstone, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the father of modern economics Adam Smith, and (of course) the freedom fighter Sir William Wallace, Scotland offers the historian an amazing array of topics to research.
